AFGHANISTAN AND IRAQ CARE PACKAGE PROGRAM 2009
Unionville community, this is our 7th year sending care packages to our
troops to show them they are not forgotten. This year it is closer to
home as my son is now serving in Afghanistan in an Army Medevac Unit.
While he does not need care packages as he receives enough from family and
friends, he told me of Camp Dwyer, a Marine FOB (forward operating base)
in the Helmand Province where his unit is rotated in and out. He says
these soldiers live in very primitive conditions, the food is bad and they
pay a high casualty price fighting for Operation Enduring Freedom. These
soldiers need to know that they are not forgotten. We are now collecting
donations in the high school main office for the month of November.
Please see the list of suggestions below and show your support so these
troops know Unionville cares!
Also, if you have family or friends serving our country in Iraq or
Afghanistan and would like them to receive a care package from Unionville,
please forward their APO address to
pmcdonough@ucfsd.org
As always, thank you for your care and generosity.

USC PROPOSES ‘EXTREME MAKEOVER-LOCKER ROOM EDITION’
To help address the locker room storage and theft issues at Unionville
High School, USC has proposed to the administration a locker room makeover
project similar to last winter’s Fitness Room Project. The school has a
tentative $15,000 short-term plan in place towards which USC will
contribute $5,000 from our 'Bricks and Lockers' fund-raising program, to
provide 80 total (girls & boys) new Phys Ed lockers that are 12" wide.
The USC proposes an Extreme Makeover-Locker Room Edition, which would
source new lockers that could be transferred to the new locker rooms in
2012. This is potentially a six-figure project, and we would not proceed
unless there were significant replies back from the community that said
"Yes, I would buy a locker for $250". We would then re-introduce the
"Bricks and Lockers" campaign, and target this January for the 'Makeover'.

The Chester County Health Department reminds residents to continue to take
preventative actions to minimize the spread of the H1N1 virus, including:
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it;
• If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your bent elbow;
• Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are
not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizing gel;
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way;
• Try to avoid close contact with sick people;
• If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24
hours after your fever has gone without the use of a fever-reducing
medicine.

persons aged 25 to 64 who have underlying health conditions associated
with higher risk of medical complications from influenza, such as weakened

“USC PROPOSES ‘EXTREME MAKEOVER-LOCKER ROOM EDITION’
To help address the locker room storage and theft issues at Unionville
High School, USC has proposed to the administration a locker room makeover
project similar to the Fitness Room Project that was completed last
winter.
LONG-TERM SOLUTION (3 years from today) - The long-term solution is being
addressed in the renovation plan which is expected to start in September
of 2011, and to be completed in September of 2012.
SHORT-TERM SOLUTION - The school has a tentative $15,000 short-term plan
in place towards which USC will contribute $5,000 from our 'Bricks and
Lockers' fund-raising program, to provide 80 total (girls & boys) new Phys
Ed lockers that are 12" wide.
USC "EXTREME MAKEOVER" SOLUTION - We would source new lockers that could
be transferred to the new locker rooms in 2012. This is potentially a
six-figure project, and we would not proceed unless there were significant
replies back from the community that said "Yes, I would buy a locker for
$250". We would then re-introduce the "Bricks and Lockers" campaign, and
target this January for the 'Makeover'.
USC's mission has been to assist the district financially and in manpower
in completing projects that have been identified in the High School
Renovation Plan. Our objective has been to appeal to those community
members that approved the renovation, which has been started without the
requested tax increase.
Let us know by e-mailing jcarney@derema.com.
