The Science Behind Later School Start Times

We have arranged for Dr. Judith Owens to join us to share her expertise on the topic of teens and sleep.  Dr. Owens is a recognized expert in the field.  She currently serves as Director of the Center for Pediatric Sleep Disorders at Boston Children's Hospital and is a member of the faculty of Neurology at Harvard Medical School.
Date: Monday, November 7th
Time: 7:00PM - 8:30PM
Place:  The NEW Patton Middle School Auditorium

Topics Covered:
**The science behind sleep and teenage sleep cycles
**What is being recommended by the AMA, AAP and CDC and why
**Examples of work done and outcomes achieved in other communities

This event will include time for questions and answers.
This is an opportunity for the community to better understand why the District is interested in looking into school start times for the middle school and high school.  Come to the event and get your questions answered.
*** RSVP:  Help us plan for the evening by sending an email to communications@ucfsd.net if you plan to attend.
Live Stream: If you are unable to attend, the presentation with Q&A will be streamed live and available on the District website.
We have developed an online resource center on the District website, including next steps in the evaluation process, research data, and information on how you can get involved.

Special Speaker PTO Meeting Added For November 15th at 9:15am
Please join us for a special PTO Meeting with guest speaker, Assistant Superintendent Ken Batchelor on Tuesday, November 15th at 9:15am in the LGI.

Mr. Batchelor will update us on the school start time issue and other district news. If you can't make the school start time presentation on Nov. 7th, this will be a perfect opportunity to get information on this topic! The PTO meeting will also be a great forum to bring your questions about this and other district issues. We hope to see you there!

UHS PTO Committee Chair Positions Available:

Are you looking to get involved? Then we hope we have the positions for you!...

1)     The UHS PTO is looking to fill the newly created position of a PTO Public Relations person. This person would be responsible for compiling pictures and write ups from the UHS Committee Chairs about their events, people served and money raised. We are hoping to raise awareness of what great work gets done each year under the blanket of the UHS PTO. We are envisioning a quarterly standalone enews (and possible submission to local new outlets such as the Unionville Times, the Kennett Paper etc.)  that showcases the hard work and dedication of the UHS PTO through photographs and write-ups. This is an opportunity for a creative person to take this idea and run with it. The UHS PTO Exec Board will discuss with you the idea we are looking to implement and then you are free to take this and run with it in whatever way you think is best.

2)     We are also in need of a passive fundraising chairperson to identify, set up and promote passive fundraising opportunities for the UHS PTO such as the Giant store card program etc. We currently do not have a chairperson leading this effort and are already missing out on revenue we could be earning this school year.

Thank you for considering offering your time and talents to help us fill these two important positions!

Please contact Kim Lauder at kimlauder@verizon.net or Luci McClure at luci.mcclure@gmail.com to express interest in or ask questions about these two opportunities.
